Schifani:Workplace is important for socialization and personal growthNew immigrants who are needed by Italy to fight the decline in population, should be turned into citizens fast, Speaker of the Senate Renato Schifani has said.
Adressing the Confindustria conference in Palermo on 15th March, Mr. Schifani said that recently there were negative reports about immigrants because of their lack of integration into the society.
“This is a challenge. To overcome it we must first of all act on the workplace which is your second home. In that extraordinary place where wealth is created, civic education can also be provided, a fundamental subject for becoming citizens,” Mr. Schifani said.
He appealed to the employers to make efforts to make the workplace play an important role in education and integration of immigrants whom he termed “new citizens”.
He urged the employers to be aware of the fact that the workplace can become an essential place for socialization and personal growth.
