Italy should speed up the process of granting Italian citizenship to foreigners

Granting immigrants the right to vote tends to bring closer the social and political citizenship, and gives immigrants new opportunities for integration through participation in the country’s democratic life, Speaker of Italy’s Chamber of Deputies Gianfranco Fini has said.

“We have to ask ourselves until when will our democracy continue to allow itself to exclude an increasing part of residents in the territory, from the decision making process which concerns all,” Mr. Fini said.
